A Hunger Like No Other By Kresley Cole
After enduring years of torture from the vampire
horde, Lachlain MacRieve, leader of the Lykae Clan, is enraged to find the
predestined mate he's waited millennia for is a vampire. Or partly one. The Emmaline is a small, ethereal half
Valkyrie/half vampire, who somehow begins to soothe the fury burning within
him.
Sheltered
Emmaline Troy finally sets out to uncover the truth about her deceased
parents---until a powerful Lykae claims her as his mate and forces her back to
his ancestral Scottish castle. There,
her fear of the Lykae---and their notorious dark desires---ebbs as he begins a slow,
wicked seduction to sate her own dark cravings.
Yet when
an ancient evil from her past resurfaces, will their desire deepen into a love
that can bring a proud warrior to his knees and turn a gentle beauty into the
fighter she was born to be?
He can smell her, sense her, feel her. She is close.
The one woman in the world who was meant for him. He needs to get to her but can’t. The vampires have had him chained down here
for what seems like forever. To burn and
come close to death only to regenerate and endure it over and over for
eternity. There is only one way to get
to her and that is to rip and gnaw his own leg off to get free.
This is Emmaline’s first time on her own. She is searching for anything that could give
her some clue as to who her father was and how he and her mother had met. It’s not uncommon for there to be a Valkyrie
half-breed, but she is the first to be half vampire. Thinking if she could find her father she
could get some answers about herself as well as her past she has traveled to Paris. When she gets a call from her aunts telling
her to get out of town because something is after her she races to the
airport. She almost gets to the plane
when a huge body comes out of nowhere and tackles her to the ground.
He has found her.
He has her in his arms and she is now his. But when he finds out that she is a vampire,
he becomes conflicted. He hates her race
so in turn must hate her for what his people did to him for so long.
Being kidnapped and forced to take Lachlain to
him home has been stressful. Between the
uncertainty that he might kill her and her raging emotions for this Lykae king,
she doesn’t know what to do or think.
All she knows is that he has done everything he can to keep her alive,
care for her and annoy her. None of that
compares to how he sets her body on fire.
Lachlain can not deny how he feels about
Emmaline. She is his one and only mate
and he can no longer deny it no matter what she is.
“In all
the years that have passed, I have waited for the one woman who was meant to be
mine alone. You are that woman.”
“Are you
crazy?” she snapped, angered that her
body felt bereft of him. “I’m not that
woman. I’m just not!”
“You will
realize soon enough that you were given to me above all others. You’ll understand that I’ve searched relentlessly
for you in every age that I have lived.”
His voice went low and gravelly. “And,
Emma, I’ve lived and I have searched a verra long time.”
“I’m a
vam”—she pattered her chest—“pire.
Vampire. You’ve forgotten that.”
“It
stunned me as well. I dinna accept it at
first.”
“No
kidding? I never would have known! What if you were correct then? You could be wrong now,” she said
desperately. “How can you be sure?”
He leaned
over her. “I scented you from. . . .
afar, and it was beautiful and eased my mind.
I saw your eyes for the first time, and recognized you. I tasted your flesh, and”—he shuddered
violently above her and his voice went guttural—“there is no way to describe
it. But I can show you if you let me.”
She realizes that she feels the same way about
Lachlain but it’s too late. Vampires
break into his home and kidnap his mate and disappears into the night. Now Emmaline is in the fight of her life to
get back to her Lykae king and her aunts when she comes face to face with the
Vampire king.
Lachlain hopes that he is not to late to save his
mate. He knows what will happen to
himself if she is taken from him and that kind of life isn’t one worth living. He will track her down to the depths of hell
if that is what it took to get her back alive and kill the one responsible for
taking her away.
This book was great. Highly addictive. It grabs you from the prologue and doesn’t let
go, even at the end of the book. My
recommendation is that you have No Rest for the Wicked, the
second book in the series to jump right into.
A very well written book by an author who knows how to write characters
that you fall in love with.
