A Hunger Like No Other (Immortals After Dark Series)

A Hunger Like No Other By Kresley Cole

After enduring years of torture from the vampire horde, Lachlain MacRieve, leader of the Lykae Clan, is enraged to find the predestined mate he's waited millennia for is a vampire.  Or partly one.  The Emmaline is a small, ethereal half Valkyrie/half vampire, who somehow begins to soothe the fury burning within him.
Sheltered Emmaline Troy finally sets out to uncover the truth about her deceased parents---until a powerful Lykae claims her as his mate and forces her back to his ancestral Scottish castle.  There, her fear of the Lykae---and their notorious dark desires---ebbs as he begins a slow, wicked seduction to sate her own dark cravings.
Yet when an ancient evil from her past resurfaces, will their desire deepen into a love that can bring a proud warrior to his knees and turn a gentle beauty into the fighter she was born to be?
He can smell her, sense her, feel her.  She is close.  The one woman in the world who was meant for him.  He needs to get to her but can’t.  The vampires have had him chained down here for what seems like forever.  To burn and come close to death only to regenerate and endure it over and over for eternity.  There is only one way to get to her and that is to rip and gnaw his own leg off to get free.
This is Emmaline’s first time on her own.  She is searching for anything that could give her some clue as to who her father was and how he and her mother had met.  It’s not uncommon for there to be a Valkyrie half-breed, but she is the first to be half vampire.  Thinking if she could find her father she could get some answers about herself as well as her past she has traveled to Paris.  When she gets a call from her aunts telling her to get out of town because something is after her she races to the airport.  She almost gets to the plane when a huge body comes out of nowhere and tackles her to the ground.
He has found her.  He has her in his arms and she is now his.  But when he finds out that she is a vampire, he becomes conflicted.  He hates her race so in turn must hate her for what his people did to him for so long.
Being kidnapped and forced to take Lachlain to him home has been stressful.  Between the uncertainty that he might kill her and her raging emotions for this Lykae king, she doesn’t know what to do or think.  All she knows is that he has done everything he can to keep her alive, care for her and annoy her.  None of that compares to how he sets her body on fire.
Lachlain can not deny how he feels about Emmaline.  She is his one and only mate and he can no longer deny it no matter what she is.

“In all the years that have passed, I have waited for the one woman who was meant to be mine alone.  You are that woman.”
“Are you crazy?”  she snapped, angered that her body felt bereft of him.  “I’m not that woman.  I’m just not!”
“You will realize soon enough that you were given to me above all others.  You’ll understand that I’ve searched relentlessly for you in every age that I have lived.”  His voice went low and gravelly.  “And, Emma, I’ve lived and I have searched a verra long time.”
“I’m a vam”—she pattered her chest—“pire.  Vampire.  You’ve forgotten that.”
“It stunned me as well.  I dinna accept it at first.”
“No kidding?  I never would have known!  What if you were correct then?  You could be wrong now,” she said desperately.  “How can you be sure?”
He leaned over her.  “I scented you from. . . . afar, and it was beautiful and eased my mind.  I saw your eyes for the first time, and recognized you.  I tasted your flesh, and”—he shuddered violently above her and his voice went guttural—“there is no way to describe it.  But I can show you if you let me.”

She realizes that she feels the same way about Lachlain but it’s too late.  Vampires break into his home and kidnap his mate and disappears into the night.  Now Emmaline is in the fight of her life to get back to her Lykae king and her aunts when she comes face to face with the Vampire king.
Lachlain hopes that he is not to late to save his mate.  He knows what will happen to himself if she is taken from him and that kind of life isn’t one worth living.  He will track her down to the depths of hell if that is what it took to get her back alive and kill the one responsible for taking her away.
This book was great.  Highly addictive.  It grabs you from the prologue and doesn’t let go, even at the end of the book.  My recommendation is that you have No Rest for the Wicked, the second book in the series to jump right into.  A very well written book by an author who knows how to write characters that you fall in love with.

Bonded By Blood. A Sweetblood Novel

Bonded By Blood By Laurie London

Movie location scout Mackenzie Foster-Shaw has always been known that she's cursed to die young.  No one can protect her form the evil that has stalked her family for generations---vampires who crave her rare blood type.  Until one afternoon in a wooded cemetery, she encounters an impossibly sexy stranger, a man she must trust with her life.
For Dominic, a man haunted by loss, Mackenzie satisfies a primal hunger that torments him---and the bond they share goes beyond heat, beyond love.  She alone can supply the strength he needs to claim his revenge.  But in doing so, he could destroy her. . .
Dominic was close to death when he found Mackenzie.  Being shot with silver tipped bullets had his seconds from death.  When he bit into Mackenzie, it was purely for survival.  It was only after taking enough to recover from his wounds did he realize what she was.  She was a Sweetblood, a highly addictive blood type that vampires craved like a drug.
Mackenzie wasn’t quite sure what happened.  All she knew is that she was extremely groggy and can’t not remember much that happened.  All she knows it that she has work to finish and a benefit to get ready for.  When she returns to the graveyard that is her current assignment, she started to get a feeling that something happened that she should remember, but just can’t.
After making sure that she gets home safely and that she was not followed by any Darkbloods, Dominic tries everything that he can to get her out of his head, but nothing is working.  He just can’t keep himself away from her.  Finally he decides that he will satisfy his bodies’ cravings for her body but will not take her blood again under any cost.
Mackenzie isn’t sure why this gorgeous man is taking an interest in her.  She is nothing special and she knows better than to get into any kind of romantic anything because of her curse, but with Dominic it’s different.  She completely looses herself around him, which is dangerous for them both.
Dominic has to distance himself from Mackenzie because it is no longer about satisfying his bodies’ urges.  There are feelings that are developing that he can not allow.  But when Mackenzie is attacked and almost abducted, he is forces to deal with a past pain that is brought to the surface and explaining to Mackenzie who and what he truly is.
Hearing what Dominic is and what she is, is the only reasonable explanation to what has been happening to her family.  Even with the knowledge that Dominic is a vampire can’t keep the feelings she has for him away and he appears to have the same problem.
He hadn’t realized how empty he had felt until he was holding her again.  His knees gave way and they sank to the ground.
“I’m sorry I left you.”
His fingers gripped her hair and he pulled her lips to his.  Greedily, he kissed her cheeks, her eye lids, her neck, her earlobes.  He couldn’t get enough.  Oh God, he needed to make love to her, to have nothing separating them but skin.  Share energies and---
If it were dark, he’d take her right on the beach, like he had last night.  How had he ever thought he could leave her?
I love you.  The words, his words, tumbled unbidden in his thoughts.
“I love you, too.”  she said huskily as she pulled back to look at him.
But their new love will be tested by the same forces that Dominic has been fighting and Mackenzie has been running from their whole lives.
This book was good from beginning to end.  It really picked up with the love story about half the way through but the action in the whole book kept you turning the page.  All in all, this was a good book, worth reading.

I have been on a reading frenzy.  In the past week I have read 4 books, those reviews will be posted shortly.  I'm glad to say that I am back and that an absence this long will not happen again.  Thank you to all the people who waited patiently for my return.  So, on with the reviews!!!

Sins Of The Heart

Sins of the Heart (Hqn) By Eve Silver

Back Cover Synopsis:

Half human, half god, Dagan Krayl is the Underworlds's most powerful soul reaper.  When one of his brothers is murdered, Dagan must use every ounce of his power to hunt down those responsible for his brutal death.  But he must move swiftly--and carefully--if he's to have any chance of resurrecting his brother.

Yet that resurrection could wreak havoc on the mortal world.  As an Otherkin, Roxy Tam has sworn to protect the human race, and it's her mission to stop Dagan.  But when she sees him face-to-face, she realizes that she has seen him before--a meeting that changed her life forever.

Neither Dagan nor Roxy expect to join forces for the sake of mankind.  Or to have their  loyalties tested as they struggle against the potent desire that threatens to consume them both.

Ok, so I know that I have been trying to finish this book and this review for a really long time.  So here is the log awaited review of this book.

Roxy Tams life has never been the same since the night she met Dagan and he saved her life, but not before he traumatized her by killing her two kidnappers and taking their souls or turning her into a parasite that craved blood.

Dagan is a soul reaper and not just any soul reaper; he is the son of Sutekh, a lord of the Underworld.  Dagan did his fathers bidding because he had to and because he was good at it and no other reason.  But the night that he met Roxy, something had changed and he didn’t know why he wanted to save the girl, let alone, have her safe and living a normal life.

A normal life was not in the cards for Roxy.  She had joined the secret society of the Daughter of Aset.  A group of women who hunted the things that bump in the night.  When Roxy was sent after a kidnapped little girl she knew that something was off but could not figure out what it was.  She was also having more of those disturbing dreams about her dark savior than normal and they were starting to feel damn real.

In all the time that he was apart from Roxy, he never stopped thinking about her.  Was she safe?  Married?  Have a whole bunch of kids???   He didn’t know the answers to any of this because he would not allow himself to search for her.  He wanted her to be normal.  But when his brother is killed, which is a feat if its own because you can not kill a soul reaper with any kind of ease.  The most common way that a soul reaper died was because he took his own life by walking into the fires of the underworld.  His brother did not take his own life, he was murder and he was no where to be found, above or below ground.

When his investigation leads him right to Roxy’s door, he can’t believe it.  It was too much of a coincidence that she was involved.

Roxy was weary about Dagans return into her life because he was the reason that she was alive, yes, but also the reason that she needed blood to survive.  Although she loathed him, she can not deny the feeling that this man invokes in her body.

Dagan knows that he should not feel the way he does about Roxy.  The years away from her did nothing but make him want her more.  When Roxy is attacked and brought close to death he realizes that she is more than a fascination to him and so does she.

Roxy sat facing Dagan on the bed.  She’d bared her heart, her soul.  Let him dig out truths she kept hidden even from herself.

She had no idea why she trusted him with her secrets.

Or perhaps she did.

A shudder chased up his spine.  Fear.  She didn’t want to understand her actions, didn’t want to acknowledge any underlying emotions.

But apparently, he had no such qualms.

“Your mine, Roxy Tam.  Mine to hold.  Mine to keep.  Mine to protect.”  His grey eyes glittered with a feral light, wild, untamed.  A little frightening.  “You are mine.”

What will Roxy do?  Her society hates and hunts the soul reapers but she can not deny what she is starting to feel for Dagan.  Dagan is intent on finding his brothers killer but how will he accomplish that when he need to protect Roxy from enemies that seem to be coming from everywhere?

I did like this book but I will admit, it was a little hard for me to get through.  I’m a hopeless romantic and I like a good balance between story and romance.  This book focused more on the story then developing the romance that was growing between Roxy and Dagan.  The story was a great story to read and being big into mythology, I loved the different myths that the author weaved into the story, but it still felt like I was reading a fantasy/fiction book more than a paranormal romance.  However that being said, when I near the end of the book, I could not put it down and had to see how it ended.  I will say that it threw me through a loop and actually made me want to read the next in the series.  Overall a good book.

Great Pics and Videos from My Inspiration

Hello all, I know it has been a while again, just because I have been concentrating on making this a full website and expanding my book library.  I'm now able to devote the time needed to this passion of mine.  With that said, the woman who got me started on this whole crazy journey with reading and writing, not sure she even knows that she is responsible for it :-), went to go see on of my favorite authors and favorite cover models.  Here is a link to her videos that she took while there.  Enjoy!! And Maryse, thanks again for the great pictures and videos!!!
